Mission Statement

Our Mission

Addiction is a disease that affects not just the individual facing substance use disorder, but also their entire family. It takes a significant toll on the mental, physical, and spiritual well-being of everyone connected to that person. Given the uncertainty often present in the recovery process, our sober companions work diligently to alleviate some of these stressors. By connecting individuals with the resources available in their recovery communities, we empower them to begin rebuilding their lives with a sustainable design for living.

As sober companions, we firmly believe in the transformative power of recovery from substance abuse. We offer hope not just to those battling the disease, but also to their families. By providing 24/7 companionship, we guide individuals along a personalized path to recovery that resonates with them. We emphasize honesty, empathy, and compassion, demonstrating that there are viable options for a better way of life. Our approach involves being present, actively listening, and facilitating healthy choices, all while honoring the dignity and respect of everyone involved.

John Prine

Certified Recovery Coach Professional (RCP)

Born and raised in the Lowcountry of Charleston, SC, I have developed a deep appreciation for its stunning landscapes, rich architecture, vibrant culture, delicious cuisine, and the warmth of its people. As an adult, I’ve lived in various southeastern states before returning to Charleston in the early 2000s. While raising my family, I’ve owned and operated several small businesses, engaged with local communities, and remained active in the recovery field.

With over three decades of sustained recovery, I’ve had numerous opportunities to embrace life on its own terms, successfully navigating challenges using the invaluable tools provided by the 12 steps. I find great passion in sharing these experiences as a sober companion and recovery coach. My journey in sobriety has granted me many blessings, with my three children and three grandchildren being among the most cherished.

Additionally, I was fortunate enough to spend a year traveling across our great country in my RV, attending meetings, connecting with people, and hearing their stories. This experience enriched my life immensely, and I remain committed to being of service wherever I can. We all have a story to tell, and by sharing in the experiences of others, I continue to deepen my own.

Helping someone find their own path to recovery—physically, mentally, and spiritually—is a passion that deeply fulfills me. There’s nothing quite like witnessing the light come on and the moment they understand they have been granted a second chance at life.
